Looking for a furry new friend? Adopt a pet on Clear the Shelters Day!

Clear the Shelter Day will take place Saturday, July 23. On this special day, the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville is providing no-cost adoptions, as a part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative that seeks to find homes for homeless pets. The shelter will have animals available for adoption at the shelter location (6707 Animal Shelter Road in Hughesville) and the Dunkirk PetSmart (10400 Southern Maryland Blvd. in Dunkirk). Adoption hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come to the shelter to find a furry companion to add to your family.

Pirates Invade the Potomac

071916-pirates-01The Piney Point Lighthouse Museum is looking for a few scurvy pirates and scalawags to participate in the annual Pirate Day on Saturday, July 23.

This event is geared for children age 4 to 9 years old. There will be a morning session from 9 a.m. to noon and an afternoon session from 1 to 4 p.m. Each session will have 12 slots for ages 4 to 6 and 12 slots for ages 7 to 9. The cost to pre-register is $10 per child. Registration has been open since July 6.

The Pirate Day program will include a host of pirate activities! Each child will receive a pirate name. They’ll get to walk the plank and do make-and-take activities. Plus, there will be pirate tattoos and flags and more. Kids are encouraged to dress as pirates for the Costume Contest.

For more information or to register your child, call the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum at 301-994-1471. The museum is located at 44720 Lighthouse Road, Piney Point, MD 20674.
